Relaxation Tips to Get You Asleep

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Chill out. Relax. Does anyone ever tell you this as a way to get to sleep? Better said than done! If you have problems sleeping, you probably have tried practically anything and everything to catch a restful snooze. The thing of it is you may not know how to relax properly. Oh, you along with many others may think you do, but relaxation is almost an art form, something that you have to really concentrate on to get right. And because everyone has their own styles, tastes and interests, one relaxation technique may work for one person but not you.

First of all, let’s talk a little about what relaxation tips might do for you, generally speaking. Sleep might come more quickly if you are relaxed. And when you sleep, your mood improves and your energy level is higher. You have more patience and humor. Stress and tension factors ease up thanks to relaxation techniques that help you sleep. Getting that good night’s sleep is the linchpin that really holds all facets of your life together. Why not try and give some relaxation tips another try?

As mentioned before, relaxing means different things to different people. You may wind down by watching a good movie on television while another person goes for a run. A cup of herbal tea or soaking in a hot tub can also be relaxing to the right person. However, the relaxation tips we are going to talk about today go even deeper. They will help you in a physiological sense and go straight to the deeper issues of anxiety and stress. The following relaxation tips and techniques require focus and active participation in order to help resolve those factors that hinder sleep.

Picturing yourself somewhere else is one relaxation technique and is also known as visual imagery. Think about the most peaceful, calming scene you can think of. It could be a visualization of ocean waves lapping at the beach sand or flying a kite on a beautiful sunny day in a wildflower meadow. No matter what it is, you just have to focus on that particular scene and displace yourself from the worries and stress that is in your life. Add details to this scene and imagine feeling the warmth of the sun or breathing in the salty ocean air. The more you focus on this scene and imagine all the little details, the more likely that tension you are harboring in your body will release.

Deep and controlled breathing is another strategy that could possibly be relaxing to you. This breathing technique is often effective for the simple reason that you are focusing on your breathing, something that is normally an involuntary reflex. You start by taking a deep breath slowly through your nose for three to five seconds, then exhaling through your mouth for another three to five seconds. Continue repeating this breathing exercise while at the same time visualizing that the tension is slowly leaking out of your body, much like the air escaping from a balloon. Many people say that by focusing on their breathing, they are making a more conscious effort to take in oxygen into their bodies, which has a light rejuvenating effect.

The muscles in your body contribute greatly to stress and therefore affect your sleeping habits. A muscle relaxation technique utilizes not only the muscles in your body but also some of the breathing tips listed in the above paragraph. As you breathe in for the three to five seconds, start by contracting a muscle group in one part of your body. Beginning from your head and neck on down your body is a good plan. When you exhale, you release the muscle group you were contracting. You repeat this technique as many times as necessary going through facial muscles to the neck to the shoulders and back and even all the way to your pinkie toes.

As with all things, if it is something you want to do well and be worth your while, you are going to have to practice. The same philosophy applies to these relaxation techniques. They may not work the first, second or even third time you try them. But if you stick to it, one of them just may prove to be a winner in helping you relax so that you can fall asleep.

Power Yoga

Monday, October 20th, 2008

We may not be familiar with power yoga as it is not fully introduced to us. Power yoga is known as the western version of Ashtanga Yoga which was brought by the Indians.

Beryl Bender Birch was the one who gave the term Power Yoga. He was a teacher of Ashtanga Yoga and at the same time an author of Power Yoga.

Yoga was inspired and was brought to the west by the renowned Sanskrit Scholar Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. The people of the west were inspired with his Ashtanga Yoga and also his philosophies.

Power Yoga is described to be the the practice of Yoga Poses which is done continuously in a series of exercises without stopping. The practice is accompanied by the Vinsaya which is known as riding the breath. This enables you to make certain movements from one pose to another.

The power yoga is characterized by vigorous exercises which challenges your physical and mental ability and concentration. This enables you to reach your inner power and connect with it.

The difference of power yoga is that the poses are done faster in a pace. This practice is essential and helpful in increasing your physical endurance.

Power yoga enables you to maintain and keep up a good focus at a longer time without breaking or distracting your concentration. if you need to fully concentrate with something, power yoga might just be the right type for you.

Power yoga has some similarities with the modified versions of Ashtanga Yoga. The certain practices of Iyengar yoga and Bikram also influenced power yoga.

Just like Bikram Yoga, notice that Power Yoga also applies the execution of the common basic yoga poses which is a good practice because even the beginners can do it.

Power yoga also adapted some practices of the Iyengar Yoga which gives emphasis on the form and alignment during the practice. It also includes practice in holding a pose longer without breaking which aims to achieve maximum benefits.

Although Power Yoga has been influenced by a lot of yoga types, still it aims on the steps of Classical Yoga. It aims to unite the body, the spirit and the mind uniquely. The main objective of yoga is for you to be able to connect to your inner power and to reach every level through the poses and practices.

With the help of power Yoga, you can dig deep to your physical, mental and spiritual power.

Power yoga is considered a good training for athletes. Not only does it train them to concentrate deeply but it also aids them in the prevention of injuries and rehabilitation that may come.

If you want to do Power Yoga, you should know first if your health condition can withstand the practice. You should know that Power Yoga is dine in a heated room which is perfectly designed to increase the strength and flexibility, increase your concentration, release tension, stamina and tone in your body which is achieved and released through sweat.

Power yoga can be taught by teachers but there might be some differences depending upon who is teaching it. The people who are healthy and fit can do and practice power yoga. If you enjoy doing exercises and if you want less chanting, power yoga is the best style for you.

More Cures for Bronchitis

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Bronchitis conditions are usually viral infections and are known for being contagious since it can be acquired through contact with a person suffering from such infection and it can travel by air. This infection can be a stepping stone for other branching infections or complications such as pneumonia and emphysema, not to mention that it can also lead to lung cancer should an individual not be treated and further exposed to factors that may worsen the condition of the patient.

This kind of respiratory disease is where the mucus membrane in the lungs’ bronchial passageway is inflamed. This causes the membrane to become irritated which will grow and swell thicker. In turn, the lungs’ tiny airways narrows down and/or shuts off, which results in breathlessness and coughing spells that is usually associated with thick phlegm.

There are a couple of treatments that are used to cure this condition, however because of the fast advancement of our technology, nowadays, the cure can now be found in just capsules or inhalers provided that you use the cure within the prescribed duration and should not be used without the consent of your doctor.

Some doctors advice their patients to use Albuterol and Ipratropium inhalers, these drugs are both by prescription. If the patient has fever and discolored phlegm, then the doctor may advise antibiotics. However, some persons who has experience such condition recommend a Z pack. It is usually taken 5 pills a day for not less than 5 days. It should stop the congestion but a cough will still be there so your doctor may write you a cough syrup that will help you get rid of the left cough and get you some rest.

Another solution to bronchitis is that if you are smoking the best treatment to the condition is to stop smoking although it is easier said than done, your doctor may also give you some Mucinex it is an over the counter kind of medicine at any drugstore and you will also have to take in more fluids like water, even sodas and juice will do but not coffee. Should a cough occur with your bronchitis, Codeine will help you stop it but if you are sick of tablets and capsules, you should try mixing lemon juice and honey, it works, not as well as Codeine though.

Meanwhile, if you have chronic bronchitis, what helps a lot is to have a cool mist steamer running while sleeping. You may also try some Chinese food remedies like the following:

1. 500 mg unpeeled pear or radish (crushed and soaked in honey).
2. Make a soup out of boiled licorice in water over low heat.
3. Put a peeled grapefruit inside the chicken cavity. Cook by steaming the chicken in a pan by adding a little water. Drink the chicken broth and eat the chicken.
4. For older patients with chronic bronchitis, It is recommended that they should eat seafoods and yam.

According to some sources there are so many ways to cure it, like by drinking onion juice mixed with honey, or onion decoction which is said to give relief from coughing that is usually associated with bronchitis. You can also try boiling pepper powder in milk and then drinking it or you can also lick pepper powder mixed with ghee and sugar. Bronchitis can also be cured by drinking a mixture of 2 teaspoons of green ginger juice and 1 teaspoon of honey.

Bronchitis is also cured by drinking roasted asafetida mixed in warm water. One should also try the combination of raisins and sugar kept ion mouth while sucked.

The condition can also be treated by sucking on pomegranate fruit skin. Eating some dates while drinking warm water can dilute and remove the cough, thereby relieving the symptoms of bronchitis. One should also try drinking mint juice or licking approximately one half tola honey up to four times a day; or drinking tulsi juice along with sugar. Tea also has its own curing substance that acts as bronchodilator. Here are more natural ways to cure bronchitis. Put warm castor oil planet leaves on a pan. Cool and spread on the chest for the night (Caution: castor oil planet is poisonous). You can also try mixing mustard powder and equal amount of flour and water, and then smear it on the chest. However some people may have sensitive skin that applying mustard might sting, test on a small area first to know whether you have sensitive skin or not.

There are yet more ways to cure bronchitis however, if we do not take good care of our bodies and continue to do things that may weaken our immune system, infections such as bronchitis will always be there to threaten us.
